ANTONIO PAREDES CANDIA

He was born in La Paz in 1924 and died in the same city on December 12, 2004. His parents were Dr. Manuel Rigoberto Paredes and DOA Aydeé Candia Torrico, who forged his habit of reading and the love for the customs and traditions our town. He has four brothers. It was puppeteer and moved from place to place with his puppet called Kusillo. So it was dedicated to the recovery of popular traditions of Bolivia, gathering one by one the traditions and customs of the native peoples mouth. Seeing the need for people culturizarse, he founded the popular book fairs personally perform in different cities. Later he abandoned his studies to dedicate himself to travel the country. Before the Bolivian government enacted Agrarian Reform (1953), with the purpose of providing plots of land to the peasants, he had already decided to distribute among the peasants the land they inherited from their parents. During the trips that take place throughout the Bolivian geography, Paredes Candia collected information about any aspect of Bolivian culture: gastronomy, oral literature, dances and customs and beliefs. Paredes bequeathed all this material to the city of El Alto, one of the poorest in the country, located only fourteen kilometers from the capital, which the author devoted the last years of his life. He was buried in the same city, in the courtyard of the museum that bears his name. One of its main objectives has always been to promote reading among the inhabitants of the highlands. Traveling bookseller, he founded the publication (1951) Island and the Bolivian Society of Literature (1968), and directed the Booksellers Association that bears his name. In addition to his studies, it is used to represent in the streets of the cities he visited an adaptation of a classic or one of his own works, his company Kusilo puppet. He devoted himself entirely to the recovery of popular traditions of Bolivia. He wrote and published 112 books, left several unpublished. Without the help of any institution and pure personal effort, he carried out their research. In 2002 he donated to the National Museum of Art "Antonio Paredes Candia" more than 400 works of art and all your personal library
